Public and Community Service Studies

Required Courses

Students who wish to supplement their major with the systematic study and practice of public and community service may elect the minor in public and community service studies. As with the major, the curriculum of the minor is guided by the mission and principles of the Feinstein Institute. The minor requires a total of six courses, 18 hours, distributed as follows:

• PSP 101 - Introduction to Service in Democratic Communities 3 Credits
• PHL 301 - Ethics, Moral Leadership, and the Common Good 3 Credits **
• PSP 202 - Foundations of Organizational Service 3 Credits
• PSP 301 - Community Service in American Culture 3 Credits

• Options for fulfilling this requirement are the same as those for the major.

• PSP 490 - Independent Study 3 Credits

Community Health Track

Students interested in public heath—or in health professions or policy—may supplement their major with a minor in Public and Community Service Studies that concentrates in the area of community/public health. Requirements for this track within the minor are as follows:

• PSP 101 - Introduction to Service in Democratic Communities 3 Credits *
• PHL 301 - Ethics, Moral Leadership, and the Common Good 3 Credits **
• PHL 309 - Biomedical Ethics 3 Credits **
• PSP 202 - Foundations of Organizational Service 3 Credits
• PSP 301 - Community Service in American Culture 3 Credits *

• Options for fulfilling this requirement are the same as those for the major.

• PSP 491 - Independent Study: Community Health 3 Credits
