Leadership, BA

Leadership is changing dramatically, fueled by an array of cultural forces such as technology, globalization, and demographic shifts. These and other changes require a new approach to leadership —one focused less on the individual and “position” and more on collaboration, community problem-solving, transparency, authenticity, diversity, and results. This new major in leadership helps students think differently about leadership and solve difficult challenges in communities and workplaces.

Requirements for the bachelor of arts degree

I. Core Curriculum Requirements: 60 credit hours

English 12
Philosophy PHL 101, Logic, and PHL 301, Ethics, Moral Leadership and the Common Good, required plus two additional courses 12 credits
Theology THL 370, Principles of Moral Decision, or THL 376, Catholic Social Thought, required plus three additional courses 12 credits
History 6
Social science 6
Science 6
Mathematics 3
Fine Arts 3

II. Requirements for the Leadership major: 27 credits hours

LDR 101 - Leadership Theory 3 credits
LDR 201 - Leadership and Diversity 3 credits
LDR Elective 300-level or higher 3 credits
LDR 480 - The Leadership Experience I 3 credits
LDR 481 - The Leadership Experience II 3 credits
Leadership Concentration: Students complete three courses (nine credit hours) in one of the concentration areas: Global, Civic or Organizational
LDR 491 - Capstone: Leading Change 3 credits

III. Free Electives: 33 credit hours

Total: 120 credit hours
