Rise of Islam in the seventh century and its subsequent spread throughout the Mediterranean world and beyond has had a significant impact on Western society. Course examines the beginnings of the religion of Islam and the person of Muhammad; explores the vision of society, art, literature; and includes an overview of the role played by Islamic movements.
