HIS 517 - Modern Rhode Island History

3 Credits

Examines Rhode Island’s history between the First Industrial Revolution and the early 21^st century. Topics include: causes and effects of industrialization, immigration patterns, Dorr Rebellion, Rhode Islanders and the civil war, conservatism vs. liberal reform, the “Bloodless revolution” of 1935, and the state’s rich ethnic diversity. Students will learn how the past influences many aspects of Rhode Island’s culture today.
