AMS 342 - American Religious Experience 1 semester, 3 credits- Core Foundation/Proficiency: Theology
A historical and thematic approach to the phenomenon of religion in the United States - the historical development of the four great religious families: Protestant, Catholic, Orthodox, and Jewish; tensions between these families; the ecumenical movement; and the growth of “civil religion” and its dogmas, liturgy, and morals. Also explores selected themes in the sociology of religion in the United States. Same as THL 342. Prerequisite: Completion of a 200-level theology core course.
