AMS 319 - American Diplomatic History I 1 semester, 3 credits-
Examines U.S. diplomatic relations from the American Revolution to the Spanish-American War. Topics will include the principles underlying U.S. policy of avoiding “entangling alliances” and the ways in which American exceptionalism, racism, and republicanism contributed to the expansion of America’s boundaries and influence in the 19th century. Same as HIS 321. Satisfies pre- or post-1877 American history requirement for minor.
