EDU 361 - Teaching Social Studies in Elementary School

1 Semester, 4 credits-

Emphasizes building familiarity with social studies standards, curricula, and teaching methods in elementary schools. Students design a critical social studies unit in relation to state standards about an unfamiliar topic. Emphasis on nondominant narratives and those deemed “other” by traditional social studies. A field experience in an elementary school is required.

Open to EDUE majors only. Prerequisites: EDU 231 or EDU 241 and EDU 285.
