BLS 221 - Black Diaspora in Providence

1 Semester, 3 Credits- Core Foundation/Proficiency: Civic Engagement; Diversity

This community-engaged course explores contemporary and historical Black diaspora(s) in Providence through traditional texts such as books, articles, films, etc., invited community speakers, and experiential learning trips. After an introduction to blackness and diaspora, students will learn about Rhode Island’s Black diasporic histories, communities, identities, challenges, and visions for the future and visit museums, restaurants, neighborhoods, and historical sites.
