Certificate of Religious Education (CORE)

The Certificate of Religious Education-called the “CORE” program-is a professional development program for catechists and teachers in Catholic schools. For teachers, the program requires between four and seven courses. For catechists, the program requires three courses.

In addition to teachers and catechists, Catholic school principals, parish administrators, and facilitators of religious education can benefit from enrolling in CORE courses, which are delivered online through the SCE. Courses are non-credit, but carry Continuing Education Credit (CEU).

The CORE program is offered by the School of Continuing Education in association with both the Catholic School Office and the Office of Religious Education of the Diocese of Providence, Rhode Island. For further information about the program, go to CORE.

Teacher Certification/RI Credential Review Consortium Pathway

The RI Credential Review Consortium Pathway allows individuals who have successfully taught in grades 7-12 for a minimum of two years an alternative route to certification in RI.  Providence College will assist qualified individuals to determine a possible route to gain secondary certification.  Candidates must provide evidence of professional development, coursework, and successful evaluations that meet the Rhode Island Professional Teaching Standards.
