History

Minor

A minor in history will require at least six courses for a total of 18 credit hours. A student wishing to minor in history must select courses as specified below in items 1, 2, and 3.

History minors with an Advanced Placement grade of “5” on the A.P. U.S. and/or European History exam(s) will be given a one-course reduction in the required courses for the specific areas.

History minors with an Advanced Placement grade of “5” on the World History exam will be given a one-course reduction in their requirement to fulfill African, Asian, Middle Eastern, Latin American, Indigenous, or Transnational History.  

A limit of two A.P. scores of “5” will be recognized by the Department for reduction of the total number of courses in the minor.

History minors with an Advanced Placement grade of “4” on the A.P. U.S. and/or European History exam(s) will be given flexibility in choosing any two courses for U.S. and/or European History.  For such students, the required number of History credits to be earned for the minor would remain at 18.

1. U.S. History (1 Course)


  • Not HIS 103 or HIS 104

2. European History (1 Course)


  • 1 European History Course

3. History Course (1 Course)


  • 1 History Course in African, Asian, Middle Eastern, Latin American, Indigenous, or Transnational History.

4. History Electives (3 Courses)
