Minor

The Communication Minor offers six 3-credit courses, plus a one-credit capstone seminar (total of 19 credits), giving students an overview of the field of Communication, based in the liberal arts tradition of critical, interdisciplinary thinking and cultural study. Courses in the minor attend to the practical and theoretical aspects of spoken, written, and visual communication.  In addition, students will complete an internship or independent studies course and a final group seminar, whose purpose is to reflect upon the internship/independent study and synthesize new understandings of those projects in the context of the minor. Students will learn to recognize the significance of communication practices and their effects on human behavior and consider the influence of media technologies on cultural production and social norms, historically and in contemporary society.

Please Note: Admission to the Communication minor opens by application in October 2021. Applicants must have a declared major in order to apply for the minor. Accepted students will be notified no later than November 1, 2021. The application process will be available each subsequent term to meet student demand as the program begins. Please address questions to Andrea McDonnell, Director of the Communication minor, at amcdonn3@providence.edu.
