Teacher Certification/Master’s of Education in Mathematics

This joint graduate degree offered by the School of Continuing Education and the School of Arts and Sciences provides an alternative path to certification and focusses on preparing candidates to become teachers in the high demand area of Math.

 

Students in the joint program are responsible to both SCE and Graduate academic policies, including admissions requirements, satisfactory progress, and general degree requirements as outlined in the Graduate Catalog

Required Courses


EDU 791:  Educational Psychology   3 credits

EDU 792:  Principles of Secondary Education  3 credits

EDU 786:  The Child with Special Needs in the Regular Classroom   3 credits

EDU 785:  Educational Measurement     3 credits  

EDU 622:  Reading in the Content Area   3 credits

EDU 787:  General Methods  3 credits

MTH 500: Foundations in Mathematics  3 credits

MTH 506: History of Mathematics  3 credits

MTH 530: Geometry  3 credits

Electives:  Two Mathematics courses to be determined by candidate’s previous coursework   6 credits

EDU 455:  Student Teaching (undergrad credit only; does not apply toward MEd)   9 credits
