The Program
This program is designed to provide those with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics, or a closely related field, with a grades 7-12 mathematics teaching certificate as well as a Master’s of Education degree in Mathematics.
Degree Requirements
The Master’s degree requires the completion of the Teacher Certification Program (TCP) in the School of Education and Social Work and the completion of 5 graduate mathematics courses. Click the following for more information about the TCP requirements: https://continuing-education.providence.edu/teacher-certification-program/.
The TCP portion of the program consists of 6 graduate courses plus student teaching, while the M.Ed. math portion consists of 5 graduate courses.
Students should complete the graduate-level TCP program coursework first to gain certification and a middle/secondary teaching position and then complete the math coursework to earn the Master’s degree.
Students in the joint program are responsible to both SESW and Graduate academic policies, including admissions requirements, satisfactory progress, and general degree as outlined in the Graduate Catalog.
