Catholic Studies

Bachelor of Arts 

The Catholic Studies major, administered by the Humanities Program, is an interdisciplinary and integrated study of the Catholic intellectual tradition. The major requires a five-course foundational sequence, fifteen elective credits, and a senior level capstone course. All students are eligible to declare this major except Catholic Humanities minors.

Required Courses

Minimum of 33 credit hours including:

  7. 15 additional elective credits, 9 of which must be taken at the 300-level or above (exceptions to the 300-level requirement can be made for language courses with the permission of the Program director). In addition to HUM/CTH courses, a maximum of 12 elective credits can be drawn from outside the Program in consultation with the Program director but must contribute to an integrated consideration of the student’s chosen theme addressed in the capstone project; such credits will not count towards the major until after the student has chosen the final capstone theme.

In addition, students should review course descriptions regarding any prerequisites for required courses. Graduation requirements include a minimum of 120 credit hours, although some academic programs may require additional credits. Please refer to the Academic Resources   section of the catalog for more information. Information regarding the Core Curriculum is available within each course and online.
