Data science is a combination of statistical mathematics, machine learning, data analysis/visualization, and computer science. This multidisciplinary field uses scientific inference and mathematical algorithms to extract meaningful knowledge and insights from a large amount of structured and unstructured data.

Effective data scientists can identify relevant questions, collect data from multiple data sources, organize the information, translate results into solutions, and communicate their findings to assist decision-making. These skills are required in almost all industries, causing skilled data scientists to be increasingly valuable.

Organizations are using data science to turn data into a competitive advantage. Data science reveals trends and produces insights that businesses can use to make better decisions and create more innovative products. Many companies have made data science a priority and are investing in it heavily. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment for data scientists is projected to increase by 36% between 2023 and 2033, significantly higher than the average growth rate for all occupations.
