The Master’s in Education with a focus on reading is a 30-credit program that is designed to support classroom teachers who are currently certified in early childhood /elementary or in middle/secondary ELA. The program is also designed for content area teachers who wish to become proficient in evidence-based teaching practices in reading. The program is not a pathway to PK-12 reading specialist certification, but rather an opportunity for classroom teachers to develop the knowledge and evidence-based practices that are essential for supporting their students’ development as readers, writers and content area learners. In this program, students may focus on either elementary or middle/secondary reading instruction, completing their studies with 2 education electives subject to program director approval. This program leads to a Master’s degree, but not to reading specialist certification.
