CTH 347 - The Catholic Vision of J.R.R. Tolkien

1 Semester, 3 credits-

Explores the underlying theological thought of the Catholic author J.R.R. Tolkien, principally through his works, “The Silmarillion,” “TheHobbit,” and “The Lord of the Rings” (LOTR). Tolkien once called LOTR “a fundamentally Catholic work.” This course shall thereby seek to bring to light the Catholic imagination or Catholic vision that one finds exhibited in Tolkien’s writings. Same as THL 347 Prerequisite: THL 200-level Core
