EDU 854 - Principles of Foundations of Education


3 credits-

Students investigate the historical, philosophical, social, political, religious, and legal foundations of education in the United States as a basis for understanding current educational issues and improving teaching and learning. Students will examine the implications of race, culture, language, ethnicity, religion, socioeconomic class, and gender for teaching diverse populations of students. Major assignments include a descriptive analysis of the context of each student’s placement school and the development of a personal philosophy of education. Provides teachers with critical, foundational context to understand how long-standing, underlying systems impact their students and communities. Equivalent to EDU 814 and EDU 825.
